How about that?

Well, the figure skating had some very interesting results.  Sadly, Russia did not sweep all the figure skating events, but did medal in all four.  Sasha Cohen of the U.S. was a great contender for gold, but she didn’t win either.  So, you ask, who on Earth could have won?  Well… the Japanese.  That’s right, Japan’s Shizuka Arakawa won gold for Japan’s first ever medal in figure skating.  Silver went to Sasha Cohen, and Bronze to Irina Slutskaya.  Also, in another historic event, China won gold in the Men’s Freestyle Skiing Aerials.  Silver and Bronze went to Belarus and Russia, respectively.  Sweden took Gold in Women’s Curling, with Switzerland taking Silver and Canada winning the Bronze medal match.  In the Ladies’ Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom, Switzerlan took Gold, Germany Silver, and USA Bronze.  The Swiss have been a dominant force in this sport for a while with a pair of brothers winning Gold and Silver in the Men’s Snowboard PGS.  In the Ladies’ 4×6km Biathlon Relay, Russia took Gold, Germany Silver, and France took Bronze.  With the sports left to compete in, I expect Germany to win at least one or two more gold medals.  The US might win maybe two more medals, but with the events coming up, it doesn’t look likely.  They may win the 5000m Relay on the Short Track, but on the Men’s 500m and Ladies’ 1000m I’m looking to the Koreans to accert their dominance.  There is the Speed Skating 10000m coming up as well and the US may win that, but one American in the running against the Dutch, it’s not looking good.  Personally, I would like to see Germany finish this Olympics like they have the past two Winter Games: with more gold medals than anyone else.  Why?  Well, I hate America for being so showy and self-centred and well, Germany’s a good choice.  I would root for Japan or Great Britain, but they have been notoriously poor in performance in the Winter Games.  Well, that’s all for tonight, I will let you all know what happens tomorrow.
