A little something I noticed.

I was Stumbling around online and I came across a couple of articles that I think I would like to talk about.  Both are about Linux and I’ve noticed Linux becoming more and more of a powerhouse.  There was this guitar string manufacturer who instead of retiring all of his software when he passed his old computers down to other departments of his company, he just gave them the computer, software and all.  Apparently, this was a license violation for some Microsoft software, presumably the OS.  Well, it turns out that the Business Software Alliance (BSA) has a program that encourages you to call them if your boss was performing “software piracy.”  Personally, I don’t see how his actions violate the licensure, but apparently it does.  Well, he was sued by the BSA and settled out of court for $65,000 plus another $35,000 in legal fees.  The legal fee, btw, were not HIS legal fees, but that of BSA.  Why?  Well, Congress in their infinite wisdom gave the BSA the right to charge YOU for THEIR legal fees if THEY sue you.  Personally, pile of bullshit is what that is.  Well, after he settled, this guy decided that NO Microsoft product will remain within his company.  He did it, he switched to Red Hat Linux and OpenOffice.org and has actually saved upwards of around $80,000 since the switch.  I say stick it to MS and go to it.  The other story was an article about a Microsoft representative belittling OpenOffice.org.  OpenOffice.org is a free office suite like MS Office.  They have much of the same programs, but OOo is FREE.  That’s about a $500 savings.  The Microsoft representative was saying the OOo is ten years behind MS Office and that it didn’t even ship with an e-mail client.  Well, it turns out that all the fancy integration of features in MS Office, the representative admitted that most people don’t even use.  What’s the point of having a piece of software that a lot of people don’t even use 45% of?  Well, I’ve decided that I’m gonna switch Lexy over to OOo since she uses the office suite software much more than I do.  If it’s a pretty easy switch, I may do it myself, though I have played around with it on a few installations of Linux I have on my TeamSpeak server.  I suggest that you all give it a try too.  It is free and open-source, why not?  That’s all for now, ciao.

I was playing around with some Photoshop tutorials and Photoshop and I came up with this:

It was a screenshot taken from WWIIOL and it’s of John about to throw a grenade.  I noticed that if I put the blade on top of the grenade, it looked like a lightsaber.  I thought it was neat.

In other news, I was reading Dawno’s LJ and I realized that whenever I hear or see Lacey’s name, a severe case of the hates goes running down my spine.  Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I showed up at her school and she saw me.  Part of me thinks that she wouldn’t care, which would annoy me.  Like Dr. Cox on Scrubs said, “He seems impervious to my threats and that annoys me.”  Dr. Cox is the BEST character from that show.

Oh, I see you noticing that new icon of mine.  Yeah, that’s right, that is a samurai in armour swimming.  Swimming in armour was a part of training as a samurai.  So, nowadays Japan has a national championship for Samuari Swimming.  Neat, huh?  Yeah, I thought so.  I mean, what kind of a badass would you have to be to swimming while wearing upwards of 35lbs. of armour?  I’ll tell you what kind, the most manly of badasses.  Now I know that a lot of you know I’m a ninja fan.  Those of you should also know the ninja and samurai are mortal enemies.  Forget what you’ve heard about pirates and ninja, that’s just some modern-day madeup by a teenager bullshit that just happens to be funny.  Samurai and ninja actually are mortal enemies and have been for literally centuries.  Now, ninja are, as anyone knows, pure badass.  I mean, they are the existential pure definition of badass.  On the same token, samurai are also badass, but in a different way.  Ninja have this mystical aura about them while samurai are there in their sweetass armour.  Samurai have the honor thing going for them.  You know, the whole defend your daimyo thing.  There’s also the ronin samurai who either failed his master and was exiled or his master died.  Both ways, he failed his daimyo.  The history of ninja isn’t as known as they almost never boasted or wrote about their achievements.  Well, I would kill to have either ninja or samurai training.  Someday, I’ll live in an area I can get that kind of training.

Eh, that’s about all that I have.  I’ll check you all later.

Sometimes Asia is so funny.

Check out this site.  It will keep you at least amused for many hours.  I can’t believe some of them.  A couple of good ones are: here, and here.  Spend some time there, you’ll laugh your ass off.

Only a little evil.

I picked this up from Kaly’s website, apparently I’m not as evil as she is, but I think the results are fairly accurate, except the picture… that’s not really me.

You Are 70% Evil

You are very evil. And you’re too evil to care.
Those who love you probably also fear you. A lot.

It’s not that I hate PETA…

Well, I know that I have been updating a lot today, but gimme a break, I’ve been up since 4:30am.  I’ve had a lot of spare time today.  I found an interesting website that I kinda agree with.  PETAkillsanimals.com has a pretty interesting stance.  They do have a petition to revoke PETA’s tax-exemption status.  I did sign it.  I don’t think PETA should be given the right to be tax-exempt considering I hate hippies.

OMG!!

Check this out!!!  It’s a 35min Google Video, but the time is worth it.  It will blow you away, I swear.  I will admit, I didn’t find this myself, I got it off an LJ post by Kaly.  Either way, spend the 35min to watch this and by the time it’s done, you will want the game.  I know I did.  In fact, I can’t wait for it.  Q3 2006… I’m excited.

WTF?

Looking through my RSS reader and I came across an interesting BBC article.  Sometimes I wonder… sometimes.

Sleep? Bah.

Amusing title, eh?  Well, it’s pretty interesting because if you look at the time of this entry, you’d figure I’d been up for at least a little while, right?  The truth is, I have yet to go to bed.  Yeah… I got up around 12:30am.  Why?  Well, it mostly has to do with the fact that I’m usually doing something that occupies me when I should be going to bed.  Like right now, I’m watching Iron Chef Battle Truffle after watching Battle Bonito.  Has anyone else noticed that Beck’s albums have only one good song and the rest are filler?  I have.  I also found a really cool on DOS game that I used to play a lot when I was a kid.  I mean a real DOS game, you know the one’s you didn’t actually have to install, you just ran the .com file?  Yeah, the old school games.  It’s called StarFlight and it’s a very Star Trek-esque game.  You play a space captain and your crew.  The whole point of the game is to find a new place for all of Arth (your home planet, witty eh?) to relocate.  Well, that’s at least what you think you’re supposed to do.  The REAL point of the game to figure out what the fuck you’re supposed to do.  It’s a really fun game if you want to spend months playing the game.  So, we went to Olive Garden… again.  Natasha decided that she wanted to go, so went on Thursday.  We met Mike and Mary there and I think everyone had fun.  I had the Three Meat Ravioli in a cheese sauce with some marinara.  It was really good.  Recently, I’ve been jonesing for some real intellectual stimulation, so I’m gonna take a Modern Physics class.  If anyone gives me some bullshit about me not having the prerequisites, that person will have a new asshole.  If had the prereqs to get into UMR’s Modern Physics class, then I have MORE than enough to get into CMSU’s Modern Physics classes.  I thought for a while that CMSU didn’t have a Modern Physics class, but I did some digging and found out they didn’t offer one this semester, but they do have a couple.  So, that will be a class I will take next semester.  Which brings me to something I find fairly unfair.  In terms of who can register for classes in the fall, Graduate Students are first at March 20.  I don’t have a problem with that, it’s when you get to Students Athletes that I start having the problem.  They can register for classes on March 22.  That is a full five days before students with 134+ credit hours can register.  That’s right, some freshman SOB who plays basketball can register for classes before a senior who needs a single class to graduate.  Granted, there shouldn’t be a problem and the senior probably needs a higher level class, but when the only person more important that Student Athletes are Honors and Grad Students and Students with Disabilities can register the same day as the Athletes.  That makes me angry.  Student Athletes should not be treated as if they are better than everyone else.  Also, in terms of advisors at CMSU, I hate these fucktards.  I have had THREE different advisors since I have started here.  At UMR, I had ONE in the four years I was there.  Son of a bitch it seems like the more I’m here, the more I shouldn’t have left UMR.  I mean, I think it was a good idea for me to transfer here as it does have the degree I want, but I never thought I would have to deal with a school system as ass backwards as CMSU has been.  My biggest beef is the fucking general ed classes I have to take.  Like, oh lets take a look here.  Oh a Physical Science course.  No, I never took any of those at UMR.  I never took two semester of Engineering Physics 023 and 024.  Oh, and this one, a history class.  According to CMSU, I never took History 112 aka Modern Civ.  The best one is Mathematical Reasoning.  Do I really have to be sarcastic about this one?  I was at an Engineering School for four years… I took an assload of math.  I really need to go through this Degree Audit and find all the things that I think should transfer, show it to my new advisor and get him to change some shit.  Well, that sounds like a good thing for me to do right now.  Catch ya later.

Lyric from this entry’s song:  “You might not think there’s any wisdom in a fucked up punk rock song.”
