There was a good deal of Olympic footage to go over today. First off was the Men’s 10km Biathlon Sprint. The one American Jay Hakinnen in the 90 skiier lineup blew his chances for any medal after missing all five shots on the first shooting station. To be honest, I laughed… a lot. A big German hopeful, Michael Greis unfortunately did not medal at all after missing a total of six shots, resulting in an extra 600m in penalty laps. The gold medalist was a German, Sven Fischer shot totally clean and took less time on both shooting stations than Jay Hakinnen took on his first. It was the most amazing series of shots and skiing I’ve ever seen. Following that, I watched the U.S. women take on the Japanese women in Curling. It was actually a pretty intense game with some amazing curls. Japan beat the U.S. in the overtime 11th End, forcing the U.S. Women’s team to 0-3. It was satisfying to see the Japanese succeed in a winter sport for once. In the Men’s Downhill Combined, American Ted Ligety won gold because strong favorite Austrian Benjamin Raich stradled a marker on the Slalom and DQed himself. Raich actually admitted he stradled and took himself out, unlike American Bode Miller who stradled a marker and hoped nobody would notice. Upon some research, the German ladies swept the Women’s Singles Luge which puts Germany up to four gold medals, one behind America. Go Germany!! In the Men’s Short Program Figure Skating, Russian Evgeny Plushenko is in the lead by nearly 11 points going into Freestyle Skate. He currently holds the highest individual score ever recorded under the new scoring system and holds the his spot as strong favorite for gold in Men’s Single Figure Skating. In Women’s Speed Skating 500m, Russian Svetlana Zhurova won Gold by a small margin of 0.21 seconds making her the oldest gold medalist in these 2006 games. Silver and Bronze were won by Chinese Wang Manli and Ren Hui respectively. German Jenny Wolf had a good chance, but both of her runs fell apart in the final 100m.
In other news, I’ve received a lot of positive feedback for my previous post. I find that actually very interesting. Apparently a lot of people liked how I expressed myself and how I felt. I find that interesting as that’s pretty much how I post an entry all the time. Kaly and I apparently had the same-ish idea to either tell off (as I mostly did) or tell others how they think of them (Kaly’s approach). I find that pretty interesting as we haven’t talked to eachother in a long time. Honestly, I have to say that Kaly is one of my better friends. Not a best friend to be sure (I’m sure she will agree), but a good friend. It’s one of those friendships that neither of us need to keep up, it’s just kind of there. She’s one of those friends that I could just turn to on a moment’s notice and get her opinion on something. I’ve always kinda cherished that. We’ve been friends since high school and maintains the longest record for a friend I currently have, so give her an applause for that. All right enough about her, I’m sure she doesn’t want to read so much about her own self. Well, I’m off to bed. Aufwiedersehen.
